Welcoming Remarks

Distinguished Colleagues and Esteemed Guests,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you all to ISOFIC2024. I am Poong Seong, Professor Emeritus in Nuclear Engineering at KAIST.

History and Evolution of ISOFIC

ISOFIC has a rich history dating back to its inception in Seoul in 2002. Since then, we have convened triennially, with previous gatherings in Tongyeong in 2005, Harbin in 2008, Daejeon in 2011, Jeju in 2014, Gyeongju in 2017, and Okayama in 2021 which is one year late due to the Covid19 Pandemic. This marks our 8th ISOFIC conference. Our roots extend further, encompassing the CSEPC meetings initiated in Japan and the ISSNP meetings mainly supported by China. These events have run prior or parallel to ISOFIC, enriching our collective knowledge base.

Future Collaborations

We've engaged in discussions with NPIC&HMIT of ANS, a prominent conference in our field, about potential collaboration. I'm pleased to share that Prof. Jonghyun Kim, ISOFIC2024 organizing chair and a future General Chair of ISOFIC, and Prof. Hyun Gook Kang from RPI, a future General Chair of NPIC&HMIT, are exploring possibilities for a joint conference in the near future. I am very much looking forward it.

Looking Ahead

While many of our long-standing colleagues have retired, their contributions have laid a strong foundation for ISOFIC. I am confident that the torch will be carried forward by the bright minds present here today. I encourage you all to engage fully in the discussions, share your insights, and forge new connections during your time here in Jeju. Thank you for your participation, and I wish you a productive and enlightening ISOFIC2024.
